The nearest basic services are 15 minutes away in Pleasureville, where you’ll find a Kroger, Post Office, hardware store, and auto shop. When you hit highway 421 on your way to Pleasureville, you could head east instead of west and just a few minutes down the road lies Six Mile Creek Distillery, a fine example of the renown league of Kentucky bourbon makers. This state offers far more than just horses, bourbon, and basketball though. If Kentucky wasn’t known as the Bluegrass State, it could easily be considered the River State, as it contains more navigable miles of water than any other state in the contiguous USA. One such river, the Kentucky, is only about 4 miles away and is a popular fishing spot for bass, walleye, catfish, crappie, and a host of other species. It has also carved out what’s known as the Kentucky River Palisades, a series of steep, scenic gorges and limestone outcroppings that stretch for approximately 100 miles.
The capital city of Frankfort lies just 25 minutes away and, as you might expect, will scratch any shopping itch you have which includes, of course, Walmart. The 200 year-old but somehow newly world famous Buffalo Trace Distillery calls this city home too, but Mother Nature refuses to be upstaged by politics and industry in Frankfort. Winding its way around the base of the city continues the mighty Kentucky River. Drive a little further in that southeasterly direction from the property (another 20 miles) and you’ll arrive in Lexington, the Horse Capital of the World. By 1820, this was one of the largest and wealthiest towns west of the Allegheny Mountains. So cultured was its lifestyle that it soon earned the nickname “the Athens of the West.” Now, it’s a vibrant commericial and cultural center of 320,000+ fine folks, decorated by a harmony of beautiful horse farms along its edges. Keeneland Race Course is one of the true crown jewels of American horse racing, a national historic landmark, and the thoroughbred industry’s leading auction house. Lexington is an hour to the east, but drive an hour to the west from this property and you’ve made it to Louisville, the largest city in Kentucky. So, if you can’t decide whether you’re a Kentucky Wildcat or Louisville Cardinals fan, then this property equi-distant from both powerhouses is the perfect spot! From a sports perspective though, Louisville’s greatest claim to fame is probably as the home to the Kentucky Derby, the fastest two minutes in sports since 1875 and probably the single greatest horse race in the world.
